Genogram Tool is a browser-based genogram maker for family therapists, social workers, counsellors and the students training to join them. There is no twenty-year-old Windows install, so it opens on a Mac, iPad, Chromebook or phone. Start from the index person, then build outward with add parents, add partner and add child until three generations are laid out. Select two people, connect them, and set the relationship: eleven standard lines cover the couple types and the Bowenian emotional overlays, meaning close, distant, conflict and cut-off. The full McGoldrick notation is supported, including twins, deceased and medical markers, dates, and the double-walled frame that marks the index person. Five starting templates open ready to edit, and an optional AI step will draft a diagram from a typed or dictated description of a family, which you then correct and extend by hand. The diagram stays fully editable either way. More than thirty guides cover the symbol set, worked examples and how-tos, including the distinction between a genogram and a family tree. Building is free with no account; Pro is for watermark-free PDF and PNG exports for a case file or an assignment.
